School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) is a pioneer Institute in Eastern India imparting Pharmaceutical Education and Research since it’s inception from the academic session 2004-05. Rapid industrialization specially in the Pharma sector has tremendously increased the demand of the Pharmaceutical education in the Country to train the students in that direction. Human beings are not free from diseases, thus requiring proper therapy (medicines) every now and then to cure diseases. At present there are about 120 crores of population in the Country and the Pharma sectors have to take such challenges to provide medicines to every corner of the health sectors for our countryman besides supply to other countries. Globalisation and more liberalization in the Indian Law has made more inflow of the Multinational companies to establish Pharma industrie's in India thus requiring more trained and skilled personnel in these sectors. School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has taken such challenges to provide proper education and training to the students in the right direction so that they can fulfill the today’s requirements of the Industries. The Institute has State-of-the-art laboratory, e-library and Wi-fi Networks facilities round the clock, equipped with sophisticated and costly equipments and instruments (viz. UV, HPLC, GC, FTIR, Lyophiliser, PCR, GEL DOC & so many other) which are mostly required for their practical training and research and which are as per the Industries requirements. Total 8900 sqm build-up area of this institute is available and has provided students maximum space for practical training which is more than requirements of the statutory bodies governing all programme to run. The Institute provides necessary education and practical training to final year students as per the Pharma Industries requirements and accordingly course curriculum is updated time to time. Hundred percent efforts are extended to final year students (both B.Pharm & M.Pharm) through Institute's Placement Cell which provides effective placement as well as assists to carry out project work in Pharma sectors mostly of which are multinationals. It is a matter of pride that our both B.Pharm & M.Pharm students are most preferred ones by the Pharma companies and almost 80% Placements are taking place annually, remaining has preferred for higher education or research. To provide best quality of education & practical training to the students, experienced and qualified faculty members are engaged who are the valued human resources of the Institute. Besides UG & PG programme the Institute is also conducting PhD programme since 2007-08 under Siksha O Anusandhan Deemed to be University (Declared u/s-3 of UGC Act 1956) accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC. So far 55 students have registered for PhD programme and four have submitted the thesis for award of the Degree very soon.
