Pharmaceutical chemistry deals with the most challenging and intricate task of performing a reaction, ultimately leading to an entirely new organic entity, exhibiting certain specific actions on the biological system to combat diseases in the ailing human beings. It includes inorganic pharmaceutical compounds (like antacids, analgesics, antipyretics, various radiopharmaceuticals etc) and organic bioactive compounds whichl combat various dreadful diseases. Rational drug discovery (RDD) is not possible without support of computer. Modern computers with specialized softwares like CADD, TRIPHOSE, ACD, Chemoffice, Chache, ADME, SPSS are used for qualitative structure activity relationship studies and for designing new drug molecules. The laboratory of Pharmachemistry is equipped with all modern sophisticated instruments for synthesis and design of new drug molecule along with study of its structure, property and structure activity relationship (SAR). Students synthesize different types of drug molecules like paracetamol, aspirin, benzimidazole, phenytoin etc. in the laboratory employing latest technology.
