| AREA OF RESEARCH |
Characterization of thermophilic microflora and thermostable biocatalysts for commercial applications
Thermostable enzymes isolated form thermophilic bacteria are lately realized to be advantageous over chemical industrial catalysts because they offer robust catalytic alternative, rarely require toxic metal ions for functionality, able to withstand harsh conditions of industrial processing, operational stability at high temperature and denaturant tolerant. In the face of soaring energy costs, dwindling fossil resources, environmental pollution and a globalized economy, the large scale use of biotechnology instead of, or to complement, traditional industrial production processes, particularly in chemical sector, is viewed both as an opportunity and a necessity. Our group focuses on the utilization of novel biotechnological application for possible genetic analysis for total genome of thermophilic bacteria, characterization of noble strains for industrially important thermostable enzymes and process optimization from industrial prospective following in vitro biochemical assay and/or metagenomic analysis for large-scale production of selected thermostable biocatalysts. |
